Jade finished prepping for dinner in the kitchen. It took her hours to chop the carrots and potatoes for the soup. As she sliced the potatoes thinly into round discs, she searched for spices to make the meal complete. With the ingredients, she was leaning toward some freshly cut dill. It would really pop against the creamy broth and potatoes.

She always looked through the herb and spice drawers in between tasks trying new things to flavor the dishes. She knew a few of them, but others were solely from Layol. It was Theodore, one of the kitchen chefs, who encouraged her to do so. He would point to a few recommendations depending on what they were serving. Her favorite so far was hogsmellow, tasting like peppered mustard on the tongue. He said she couldn't serve people unless she knew what it tasted like. It was cruel and unfair.

She trusted his advice. With the way he cooked, people would eat his food off the floor.

Once she finished chopping, he handed her a list, realizing the pantry was lacking, instructing her to head to the pantry across town for things needed for supper and tomorrow's breakfast.

They were mere feet from each other and they still didn't talk. They were both very good at holding a grudge. Jade's blood didn't boil at the sight of him, but she was still mad. As the days passed, she started to feel more like she had misdirected her anger toward him. She still refused to be the first to kneel, her pride not letting her, especially after what he said.

Over the past few days, her eyes couldn't help lingering over to him every so often to check out what he was up to. Every time she glanced over at him, he didn't take any breaks and was well versed in what needed to be done like he had done it before. He was around humans with open cuts and wounds. The blood didn't bother him or test his restraints to drink. If it did, he hid it well.

She remembered when she pricked her thumb back when she first met him. It was only a mere few drops of blood, yet it sent his eyes black. There was a far greater amount of blood here from humans and he was perfectly in control. She wondered if maybe it was because he had time to mentally prepare before heading into town that he was able to stay focused, whereas her situation took him by surprise. She toyed with the idea
